Ben-Hur (1907) is a short film (silent, B&W, 15m), directed by Sidney Olcott. Based on Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (1880 Wallace), novel.
Abstract
First cinematic adaptation of Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (1880 Wallace), novel, with the chariot race dominating the footage. It is important in cinema history in that it resulted in the first lawsuit against a motion picture company for the violation of a literary copyright, thus establishing the premise of motion picture rights to books and plays.
Production
Produced in the United States (Kalem Company, 1907).
