Franz Julius Delitzsch

Franz Julius Delitzsch (1813-1890) was a German scholar and novelist, Lutheran theologian and Hebraist. Professor at Rostock, Erlangen and Leipzig. In 1880 established the Institutum Judaicum in Leipzig. Delitzsch defended the Jewish community against anti-Semitic attacks, and in 1877 composed what is still considered the standard translation of the New Testament in Hebrew. As part of his scholarly work, also wrote some historical novels.
