Ezra Abbot was born on April 28, 1819 in Jackson, Maine.


He graduated (1840) from Bowdoin College. He was Assistant librarian (1856-1872) at Harvard University, and then (1872-1884) Bussey Professor of New Testament Criticism at Harvard Divinity School.

Abbot died on March 21, 1884 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
