La Maddalena (aka La Maddalena lasciva e penitente) <Italian> / Magdalene (1617) is a play by Giovan Battista Andreini.

Editions, performances, translations

Written for the festivities celebrating the wedding of Duke Ferdinando di Gonzaga and Caterina de’ Medici, was performed in Italy (Mantua, Palazzo Ducale, March 1617).

Abstract

The “sacra rappresentazione” included incidental music and arias composed for the occasion by a group of Italian musicians, namely, Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), Salomone Rossi (1570-c.1630), Muzio Effrem (1549-c.1640), and Alberto Ghivizzani (c.1572-c.1632).
