The Press was established in Canada in 1974, the United States in 1978, Great Britain in 1987, and Austria in 1993.

The Principal editors are Herbert Richardson (formerly of the University of Toronto), Watson Mills, Founding Director (retired) of Mercer University Press; and John Rupnow, Director of The Edwin Mellen Press.
