Zofia Kossak-Szczucka (1889-1968) was a Polish novelist. Kossak is regarded as one of Poland's most distinguished historical novelists. She was politically involved in Catholic organizations and during World War II she co-founded the Polish organization Żegota, set up to assist Poland's Jews in escaping the Holocaust. She was arrested in 1943 and spent some time at Auschwitz. After the War she moved to London, where she published her only novel of biblical subject. She returned to Poland in 1957 after the end of the Stalinist period. In 1985 she was posthumously awarded the title of Righteous Among the Nations.
