William Wotton (1666-1727) was a British scholar.
Biography
Scholar and clergyman. A child prodigy, became soon famous for his linguistic skills in ancient languages (including Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Syriac, Arabic) and his encyclopedic knowledge in philosophy, mathematics, geography and history. Based his pioneering work on Judaism at the time of Jesus essentially on the Mishnah, of which he also offered a partial translation.
