Wilder Penfield (1891-1976) was an American-born Canadian novelist. Penfield was born January 26, 1891 in Spokane, WA and grew up in Hudson, WI. After studying at Princeton University, Oxford University and Johns Hopkins Medical School, he joined the medical faculty of McGill University in Montreal [Canada] in 1928. Penfield became one the most famous brain surgeon in the world and the founder of the Montreal Institute of Neurology in 1934. As his second career, he was also the author of historical novels and essays. Penfield died in Montreal [Canada] on April 5, 1976.
