English title -- The Text and Interpretation of Old Testament Citations in the Damascus Document

Abstract

"The Damascus Document is a central work for understanding the Essene movement. The significance and interest of the book has further increased in the 1990s, when, after a long wait, the writings of Cave 4 have been made available for free use in research. These fragments add considerably to the medieval manuscripts found in Cairo more than a hundred years ago. In addition to the Cairo Manuscripts, fragments have been extensively considered in this study. The research focuses on explicit Old Testament quotes from the Damascus book, which are more present in the book than in any other Qumran book outside the commentaries. The text format of the quotations is compared to other known text traditions. The study also sheds light on the formation of the canon from the perspective of the Damascus book and other Qumran texts."--Publisher description.

"Damaskon kirja on keskeinen teos essealaisuuden ymmärtämisen kannalta. Kirjan merkitys ja kiinnostavuus on entisestään kasvanut 1990-luvulla, kun pitkän odotuksen jälkeen luolan 4 kirjoitukset on saatu tutkimuksen vapaaseen käyttöön. Nämä fragmentit tuovat huomattavaa täydennystä Kairosta yli sata vuotta sitten löydettyihin keskiaikaisiin käsikirjoituksiin. Tässä tutkimuksessa on Kairon käsikirjoitusten ohella otettu kattavasti huomioon myös fragmentit. Tutkimus keskittyy Damaskon kirjan eksplisiittisiin Vanhan testamentin lainauksiin, joita teoksessa on enemmän kuin missään muussa Qumranin teoksessa kommentaarien ulkopuolella. Lainausten tekstimuotoa vertaillaan muihin tunnettuihin tekstitraditioihin.
