The Jewel of Medina (2008) is a novel by Sherry Jones.

Abstract

A popular, yet highly controversial novel due to the sensitive subject it deals with, in spite of the repeated assurances by the Author: "I have deliberately and consciously written respectfully about Islam and Mohammed… I envisioned that my book would be a bridge-builder." The book was first officially released in Serbia, in August 2008.

"Born Aisha bint Abi Bakr in seventh century Arabia, she would become the favorite wife of the Prophet Muhammad, and one of the most revered women in the Muslim faith. Married at the age of nine, The Jewel of Medina illuminates the difficult path Aisha confronted, from her youthful dreams of becoming a Bedouin warrior, to her life as the beloved wife and confident of the founder of Islam ... Set against the backdrop of seventh-century Arabia, a fictional portrait of A'isha, the child bride of the prophet Muhammad, describes how she battled religious persecution, jealousy, political rivals, and temptation to become Muhammad's trusted advisor."--Publisher description.
