The Donkey of Tarsus (2010 Colvin / Carmichael), children's novel & art
The Donkey of Tarsus: His Tales about the Apostle Paul (2010) is a children's novel by Adele Bibb Colvin, illustrated by Peyton Hamilton Carmichael.
Abstract
An old donkey relates stories of his travels with Paul as he organized churches in the early days of Christianity.
"Raised to defend the Jewish faith, Saul of Tarsus persecuted followers of Christ until he heard the call of Jesus. When he was knocked to the ground on the way to Damascus, Saul's eyes were opened to Christ's love. He immediately converted to Christianity and, known as Paul, began building the Lord's church. Traveling in the name of Jesus from Damascus to Antioch, Cyprus, Perga, Antioch of Psidia, Iconium, and Lystra, Paul rode a donkey who witnessed the goodness of God and the miracles Paul performed while spreading the Christian faith. That humble donkey recounts his journey with the apostle in this beautifully illustrated biblical adaptation for children. Accompanied by reflective illustrations, the donkey's reverent story presents an account of early Christianity that will be easy for young Christians to understand."--Publisher description.
"The son of a tentmaker, Saul of Tarsus was an ardent defender of the Jewish faith who persecuted followers of Jesus Christ for their beliefs. Riding one of his father's donkeys, Saul set out to punish anyone who believed Jesus was the Messiah. Suddenly on the road to Damascus, he was hit with a blinding light, knocked to the ground, and lost his sight. Saul soon heard the call of Jesus, was baptized as a Christian, and became known as Paul. After his conversion, Paul traveled in the name of Jesus from Damascus to Antioch, Cyprus, Perga, Iconium, and Lystra to build Christ's church and spread the Christian faith. The humble donkey witnesses the miracles Paul performed and recounts his journey with the apostle in this beautifully illustrated biblical adaptation for children."--Publisher description.
