Simon Filipaj

Simon Filipaj (1925-1999) was an Albanian scholar and Catholic priest. Born in Montenegro, Filipaj studied in the Catholic Seminaries of Bar [Montenegro] (1939-41) and Shkodra [Albania] (1941-45), and then at the Theological Faculty of Zagreb (1946-50). On June 29, 1950 he was ordained a Catholic priest, as a member of the Archdiocese of Bar. Since the 1970s, Filipaj devoted his life to the translation of the Bible into Albanian. In 1980 he published an edition of the whole New Testament and in 1994 he authored the first complete translation of the Bible into Albanian.
