Samuel Marinus Zwemer (1867-1952) was an American missionary and scholar.

Biography

Samuel Marinus Zwemer was born April 12, 1867 at Vriesland, Michigan.

He was educated at Hope College and the New Brunswick Theological Seminary.

An ordained minister of the Reformed Church, he devoted his life to Christian mission in the Arabic world. He traveled extensively in the Middle East, resided in Bahrein, Arabia and Egypt, and authored numerous theological and missionary works.

As a scholar and professor of History of Religion at Princeton Theological Seminary (1929-1937), he focused in particular on the study of the Muslim views of Jesus.

Zwemer died April 2, 1952.
