"Despite some missing music at the top of the opera as well as the final 45 seconds, this performance of Salome, with an entirely English cast, proves to be incredibly satisfying due in large part to the presence of Pauline Tinsley in the title role. Tinsley was a soprano who knew no classification, faring equally well as Elisabetta opposite Beverly Sills in the now legendary production of Maria Stuarda at New York City Opera, as well as dramatic roles like Turandot and Santuzza. That versatility makes her ideal as Salome as her vocal purity helps to convey Salome’s youth without short-changing the thrilling dramatic climaxes. The rest of the cast is relatively unknown with Patrick Wheatley standing out as a booming Jochanaan. The sound is relatively clear."--Opera Depot.
