Rona was born in 1943 in Kovno concentration camp in Lithuania. Both of her parents were involved with the underground resistance. Rona was smuggled out of the camp when she was ten months old and was hidden by courageous Lithuanians throughout the war. She stayed with her foster parents for more than four years after her liberation. Rona’s father was sent to Dachau in 1944. He survived and returned to Lithuania after the war at the end of 1945. Rona was reunited with him in 1949. Her mother did not survive but was posthumously recognized by the Lithuanian government and B’nei Brith International for her efforts in rescuing 30–40 children.
