Paradise Lost (1760) is an oratorio, set to music by John Christopher Smith.

Abstract

Based on Paradise Lost (1667 Milton), poetry. The work survives both in manuscript and printed sources and ws the most successful among the works of the composer.

Performance history

Premiered in London, England: Covent Garden, 29 February 1760. Performed again in 1761 and in a revised version, in 1774.
