Myra Davis (née Heller), born on July 12, 1936 in Kovno (Kaunas), Lithuania, discusses her early life as a child of an affluent Jewish family; her parents buying visas for Curacao through the Japanese consul; traveling via train to Moscow, Vladivostok, and Japan; staying in Japan for approximately nine months; living in the French section of Shanghai, China in 1940; living in the Hongkew Ghetto in 1941 when the Japanese took over; her education; her father’s suicide; life after the war; her mother’s getting married to a Jewish U.S. Army Colonel who later adopted Myra; going with her mother and stepfather to Beijing, China in 1946; moving to the United States in October 1947; their move to Austria in 1950; getting married; and settling in the United States.
