Max Brod (1884-1968) was a Czech Jewish novelist. Born in Prague, Brod received his formal education in German. A successful writer and novelist, his life and literary career were shaped by his friendship with Franz Kafka. A fervent Zionist since 1913, moved to Palestina in 1939, when Prague fell under Nazi occupation. He spent there the rest of his life, working as a theater director.
