Matthew's Christian-Jewish Community (1994) is a book by Anthony J. Saldarini.

Abstract

A fresh and groundbreaking approach to the Gospel of Matthew which views this document just as Jewish as other Jewish texts roughly contemporaneous to the period (2 Baruch, Josephus, early layers of the Mishnah, etc.). Saldarini also engages with social scientific criticism in order to highlight the social context of Matthew's community, a group he sees as still belonging to Judaism albeit as a sect which feels marginalized by the rest of the Jewish society in its regional setting which he tends to locate in Galilee. For Saldarini, the group of "Christian Jews" of the Matthean community were fully Torah observant, practicing not only the ethical aspects of Jewish tradition but also its ritual commandments (Sabbath, circumcision, etc.)--Isaac W.
