Overview

In spite of her strong success in fictional works in past centuries, Mariamne has had a very limited presence in the movies. She was only co-protagonist of the film Erode il grande (1959) and of a 1965 TV production of Hebbel's drama. A contributing factor was certainly the progressive decline of interest in the character in popular culture in the 20th century.

Performing Mariamne (cinema & television)

Two very different films and two very different actresses. In 1959 the role of Mariamne was given to Sylvia Lopez, a young French model in her twenties, while in 1965 it was played by Antje Weisgerber, an experienced German film and television actress in her forties.
