Maria Valtorta (1897-1961) was an Italian visionary. Born in Caserta [Italy] on March 14, 1897 into a Lombard family. Spent most of her life in Viareggio, Tuscany. For twenty-seven years, until the day of her death, she was bedridden due to an injury in her back. Although not formally a nun, she was associated to the Servit Order. From 1943 to 1953 Valtorta wrote a monumental work in ten volumes detailing the lives of Jesus and his mother Mary, as supposedly dictated to her in vision. Died on October 12, 1961 in Viareggio, Italy. In 1973 her remains were buried in Florence [Italy] in the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata.
