Biography

Manfred Vos was born in 1924 in Cologne, Germany. Having experienced Nazi persecution of Jews, in 1938 he and his younger brother Henri Vos went as refugees to Belgium at Home Speyer and from there in 1940 to France where they were hosted at Seyre and at the Chateau de La Hille.

From August 1942 the situation became precarious as the Nazi ordered the arrest of all Jewish boys and girls over 15 years of age.

In January 1943 Manfred (with Inge Helft and Adele Hochberger) was arrested while trying to cross the border with Switzerland. He was deported to Auschwitz where he perished. His brother Henri Vos survived in hiding.

Manfred was one of the 12 out of ca. 100 Children of La Hille who did not survive.
