Mahomets Alkoran (1658) is the Dutch edition of L'Alcoran de Mahomet (The Alcoran of Mahomet / 1647 Du Ryer), book. Translated from the French by Jan Hendrik Glazemaker.

Abstract

The second Dutch translation of the Qur'an was also based on a modern translation, i.e. the French translation by André Du Ryer. Glazemaker's translation however had at least the advantage of going back through Du Ryer to the original Arabic, while the previous anonymous translation, based on the German translation by Salomon Schweigger (after the Italian of Andrea Arrivabene), derived from the Latin text by Robert of Ketton.

Editions

Published in Amsterdam, Netherlands: Jan Rieuwertsz, 1658.
