La rappresentatione di san Giovanni & Paulo <Italian> (1491) is a play by Lorenzo de' Medici.

Abstract

The story is based on the Golden Legend by Jacobus de Voragine. Lorenzo de' Medici tried in a genre dear to his mother Lucrezia Tornabuoni and already experienced in Florence by religious writers as Feo Belcari, Antonio di Meglio, Bernardo and Antonia Pulci. Careful to follow the political mood of his citizens (in 1489 Girolamo Savonarola had come to Florence as a preacher in the convent of San Marco), Lorenzo publicly renounced the Platonic style of his previous poetical compositions to recover the link with the Christian popular tradition.
