Johannes Yivisaker (1845-1917) was a Norwegian-born American scholar.

Biography

Johannes Yivisaker was born April 24, 1845 in Sogndal, Sogn og Fjordane [Norway].

In 1871 he migrated to the United States, where he received theological education. In 1879 he became professor of New Testament Studies at Luther Seminary in Madison, Wisconsin (to 1888), and later in St. Paul, Minnesota, until his death. He lectured all the time in Norwegian, as one of the most respected theologians of Norwegian-American Lutheranism. In 1881-82 Ylvisaker studied in Europe at the Universities of Christiania and Leipzig, and in 1906 traveled to Egypt and Palestine.

Yivisaker died October 10, 1917 in St. Paul, MN.
