Jesucristo Superstar / Jesus Christ Superstar (1975) is the first Spanish production of Jesus Christ Superstar (1970 Webber / Rice), opera, directed by Jaime Azpilicueta, with Teddy Bautista (musical director) and Gelu Barbu (choreographer). Translated into Spanish by Jaime Azpilicueta and Nacho Artime.

Abstract

The Spanish production of Jesus Christ Superstar was quite a challenge, since at that time, except for occasional exceptions, the Anglo-Saxon musical had not been introduced to the Spanish stage. In addition, those were the last days of the Franco dictatorship and the problems caused by the film version were still fresh. Nevertheless, the show became a public success and remained such for almost five months, contributing to further increase the fame of its main star, Camilo Sesto.

A recording of the show with the Spanish cast was released in 1975.
