Inge Helft (F / Germany, 1926-1943), Holocaust victim

Biography

Ingebord (Inge) Helft was born in Winzen, Germany, on March 21, 1926. Having experienced Nazi persecution of Jews, in 1938 she went as refugees to Belgium and from there in 1940 to France where the children were hosted (boys and girls) at Seyre and at the Chateau de La Hille.

From August 1942 the situation became precarious as the Nazi ordered the arrest of all Jewish boys and girls over 15 years of age.

In January 1943 Inge was arrested (with Adele Hochberger and Manfred Vos) while trying to cross the border with Switzerland. On February 9, 1943 they were deported to Auschwitz where they perished.

Inge was one of the 12 out of ca. 100 Children of La Hille who did not survive.
