Abstract

"In 1902 the Pia società di S. Girolamo per la diffusione dei Santi Vangeli was founded at Rome with the sanction of Pope Leo XIII., and issued this new translation of the four gospels and Acts in modern Italian. The translation was by Bartolomeo Clementi, the preface by Giovanni Semeria, and the notes by Giovanni Genocchi. The notes, as a rule, avoid Protestant controversy.

The preliminary matter includes a map, preface, an extract from the Imitatio Christi on the reading of Scripture, "Alcuni ricordi per la pia lettura del S. Vangelo," and list of contents. Text in double columns, divided into sections, with crossheads, footnotes, etc. The text is followed by tables of lessons, indexes, and Corrispondenti diocesani of the Society of St. Jerome."
