Hermes was a Olympian god in ancient Greek religion and myth, son of Zeus and the Pleiad Maia.

Hermes moved freely between the worlds of the mortal and divine, as emissary and messenger of the gods,intercessor between mortals and the divine, and conductor of souls into the afterlife.

Critical scholarship dismisses any variant of the Jesus Myth Theory aimed to establish a direct connection between Jesus and Hermes. The cult of Hermes however heavily influenced the worship and iconography of the Church, in particular, in the portrait of Jesus as the Good Shepherd.
