Herbert Haufrecht (1909-1998) was an American composer. Born in New York City. Studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Juilliard School. In West Virginia as an employee of the Federal Department of Agriculture began collecting folk songs and stories--an interest that would pursue for the rest of his life. In 1939 moved back to New York to become a staff composer and arranger for the Federal Theater, composing incidental scores for several plays, folk songs and children's works.
