Gore Vidal (1925-2012) was an American novelist. He often explored the field of antiquity. He collaborated to the script of the movies Ben-Hur (1959) and Caligula (1979), and wrote two novels, Julian (1964) and Live from Golgotha (1992), dealing with early Christianity.

Biography
Vidal was born Eugene Luther Gore Vidal in West Point, New York, on October 3, 1925. He was raised in Washington, DC and served in the US Army in the last years of the Second World War. Gore was one of the most influential American writers of the 20th century. Novelist, playwright, essayist, actor and politician, he was highly controversial for his leftist political view and support to conspiratory theories. Vidal died on July 31, 2012 in Hollywood Hills, California.
