Gloria Swanson

Gloria Swanson (1899-1983) was an American actress. One the major movie stars in the silent film era, she is one of the most famous interpreters of Salome, even thought she never played a Salome movie. In Stage Struck (1925), she was a young waitress who dreamt of being Salome on stage. Curiously, twenty-five years later, in Sunset Blvd. (1950), she played a similar role as a fading silent movie actress who also dreamt of being Salome. In 1956 she acted in her only historical movie, playing the role of Nero's mother Agrippina in a spoof by Steno with Alberto Sordi (Nero) and Brigitte Bardot (Poppea).
