Giuseppe Marchi (1795-1860) was an Italian archaeologist. In 1812 he joined the Jesuit Order and was professor of Humanities in several colleges. In 1838 he was made prefect of the Kircher Museum at the Collegio Romano in Rome, a position he retained until his death. In 1842 he succeeded Giuseppe Settele as Conservatore dei sacri cimiteri di Roma. He announced the project of a comprehensive work on Christian archaeology in Rome, of which only the first volume was published in 1844. His work was continued and expanded by his young collaborator Giovanni Battista de Rossi. In 1847 Marchi was appointed Consultor of the Congregation of the Index and in 1854 took part in the creation of the Lateran Museum of which, with de Fabris, he became director.
