Gerald T. Sheppard (1946-2003) was a Canadian scholar.

Biography

Gerald T. Sheppard was born on April 26, 1946.

He graduated from Bethany Bible College and Fuller Seminary in California. Thereafter he received his M.A., M. Phil. and Ph. D. from Yale University. He was ordained in the Church of God in Christ, a primarily African-American and evangelical church.

He served as Assistant and then Associate Professor of Old Testament at Union Theological Seminary in New York from 1976 to 1985. Since 1985 he served as Professor of Old Testament Literature and Exegesis at Emmanuel College of Victoria University in the University of Toronto. His areas of specialization included wisdom literature, the Psalms, canonical criticism and the history of interpretation, with a particular interest in seventeenth-century Puritan treatment of the Bible.

Sheppard died on November 15, 2003.
