Gavriil Romanovich Derzhavin (1743-1816) was a Russian playwright. Russian poet and senator. In 1800 he was commissioned by the Emperor to write a report on the conditions of Jews of White Russia, which although informative was marred by profound anti-Jewish prejudices.
