Filippo Buonarroti (1661-1733) was an Italian scholar and the author in 1716 of a pioneering work on the iconography of the catacombs.

Filippo Buonarroti was born in Florence [Italy] on November 28, 1661. The great-grandnephew of Michelangelo was an officer at the court of the Gran Duke of Tuscany and an antiquarian, renowned for his studies in Etruscan art. In 1716 he was the author of a pioneering work on the iconography of the catacombs. Buonarroti died in Florence [Italy] on December 10, 1733.
