Abstract

Lucien Steinberg examines the question of whether of not the Jews submitted passively to Hitler's in human treatment and settles this controversy in this illuminating study. His research shows that many Jews did fight back; the uprisings in Warsaw and Treblinka were not isolated incidents, just the ones we hear about; they made a substantial contribution to the European Resistance movements which prepared the ground for the defeat of Nazism. His work is a major contribution to literature on the last World War.
