{en} Nicholas and Alexandra [1] (UK, 1971), directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, starring Michael Jayston (Nicholas II), Janet Suzman (Tsarina Alexandra), Tom Baker (Rasputin), Laurence Olivier (Sergei Witte), Brian Cox (Leon Trotsky), Ian Holm (Vasily Yakovlev), Vivian Pickles (Nadezhda Krupskaya).

Tsar Nicholas II, the inept last monarch of Russia, insensitive to the needs of his people, is overthrown and exiled to Siberia with his family.

Despite the detailed production design, photography, and strong performances from the cast, and 6 Oscar nominations, the film failed to find the large audience it needed to be a financial success.
