{en} Little Women [1] (USA, 1949), directed by Mervyn LeRoy, starring June Allyson (Jo), Peter Lawford, Margaret O'Brien (Beth), Elizabeth Taylor (Amy), Janet Leigh (Meg), Rossano Brazzi, and Mary Astor

It is the fourth film adaptation of the 1868 novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott, after the two (lost) silent versions of 1917 and 1918 and the first "talkie" of 1933. It chronicles the lives of the March sisters—Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth—in Concord, Massachusetts, during the 19th century.

In glorious Technicolor, this immensely popular feature film adaptation was packed with glittering stars. Two more major film adaptations will follow: in 1994 and 2019.
