A young Auschwitz survivor and his mother search for each other across post-World War II Europe.
A quiet nine-year-old Czech boy, survivor of Auschwitz, flees a refugee center in postwar Germany and is found in the ruins by an American G.I. who takes a liking to the boy. At the same time, the boy's mother, the sole surviving member of his family, searches refugee centers for her son.
Ivan Jandl received a special Oscar for his performance. He also won a Golden Globe Award.
