Sabatino Sofia (Episcopia, Italy, 1939) - Astronomer

Born in Italy, Sofia moved as a child to Venezuela and then in 1961 to the United States. Giacconi was an Italian-American Nobel Prize-winning astrophysicist who laid down the foundations of X-ray astronomy. He was a professor at the Johns Hopkins University. He graduate from Yale University. In 1967 he joined the faculty of the University of South Florida (Tampa), before returning to Yale in 1984.
