Celestine Damiano (1911-1967) -- Catholic bishop (Camden, NJ)
Born in Dunkirk NY, Damiano was ordained a priest in 1935. He did pastoral work in Buffalo and Niagara New York until 1947. In 1952 he was appointed apostolic delegate to South Africa, where he became a vocal opponent of the government's apartheid policies. He then served as bishop of the Diocese of Camden in New Jersey (1960–1967), until his death.
