Rita Levi-Montalcini (1909-2012) - Nobel laureate (Medicine, 1986)

A neurobiologist. Born to an Italian-Jewish family, she survived the Holocaust, under false identities, protected by some non-Jewish friends. In September 1946, she began her work at Washington University in St. Louis; She was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine jointly with colleague Stanley Cohen for the discovery of nerve growth factor (NGF).
