Paulus der Apostel Jesu Christi: sein Leben und Wirken, seine Briefe und seine Lehre <German> / Paul, the apostle of Jesus Christ: his life and work, his letters and his teachings (1845) is an book by Ferdinand Christian Baur.
Abstract
Baur saw in Paul the leader of the non-Jewish party in opposition with a pro-Petrine Jewish-Christian party. In Baur's view, the earliest period of the Church was characterized by a deep conflict with Judaism.
The great Tübingen critic came to the conclusion that only the Epistles to the Galatians, Corinthians, and Romans could be confidently used as sources for Paul's system of thought. This did not mean that all of the other Epistles were spurious, but that they were uncertain. This view sparked reactions from all sides during Baur's own time.
Editions and translations
