Pascal Tosi (1837-1898) -- Jesuit priest & missionary

Born in Ferrara (Italy), Pasquale "Pascal" Tosi, a diocesan priest, joined the Jesuit Order in 1862. In 1865 he arrived in the United States as missionary to the Indigenous Peoples of the American Northwest. He was one of the first two Jesuits missionaries (the other being Louis Robaut) to set foot in Alaska. As the first Superior of Jesuits in Alaska (from 1886 to 1897) and first to have ecclesiastical jurisdiction in Alaska (Prefect Apostolic from 1894 to 1897), he is regarded as the founder and organizer of the Church in North-Alaska. Died in Juneau, Alaska.
