Lorenzo Da Ponte (Ceneda, 1749 - New York, 1838) - Librettist, scholar, active in Italy, Austria, and the United States.

Born in Ceneda (Vittorio Veneto) to a Jewish family, Lorenzo Da Ponte was an opera librettist, poet and Roman Catholic priest. He wrote the libretti for 28 operas by 11 composers, including three of Mozart's most celebrated operas: The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Così fan tutte. Da Ponte moved to the United States in 1805, where he became the first professor of Italian literature at Columbia College. Died in New York.
