{fr} Bérénice <French> / Berenice (1670) is a play by Jean Baptiste Racine.

Abstract

The tragedy, in 5 act, was an immediate success; it is still published and performed, and very popular in France. Racine competed, and won, against Tite et Bérenice (1670 Corneille), play. Racine's Berenice had more tenderness than pride, being confident that love would ultimately triumph. It was only when Titus declared that he would rather die than be disloyal to Rome, that Berenice understood his conflict and resolved it by leaving him of her own free will, tenderly and with utter resignation.
