Conversion of St. Paul on the Road of Damascus (1601) is a painting by Caravaggio, at Santa Maria del Popolo, Rome, Italy.

Abstract

Oil on canvas (230 cm × 175 cm (91 in × 69 in). A first version of the painting (known as Conversion of St. Paul, 1601) was rejected and the Author had to replace it with the current version.

History and current location

The work was commissioned to decorate the Cerasi chapel of Santa Maria del Popolo, Rome, Italy, where it is still currently located. The first version of the painting is preserved at the Odescalchi Balbi Collection in Rome [Italy].
