Ezra Stiles


Ezra Stiles (1727-1795) was an American scholar, congregational clergyman, theologian, politician. President and Professor of Semitics of Yale College, 1778-1795. Pioneer of the study of post-Biblical Jewish literature in America. Devoted to Hebrew language and culture, encouraged all Yale students to learn it and was in friendly correspondence with Jewish Rabbis.
