Expulsion of Heliodorus from the Temple (1512) is a fresco by Raphael.

Abstract

In this fresco in the Palazzi Vaticani, the renowned Italian painter and architect, Raphael, offers an outstanding example of the way in which Second Temple Judaism was visually reshaped by the artists of the Renaissance. The episode of Heliodorus (from 2 Maccabees) is portrayed in a solid classical setting, which makes it contemporaneous to its audience. The Pope Julius II and his court (on the left) assist and are part of the composition, which reproduces and expands the architectural structure of the room (designed by Raphael himself), where the fresco is located.
